Description
cigar box guitar fretboard Exotic Pre -slotted fretboards - genuine Grade A . American hard maple .When it comes to instrument building woods maple is a tried and true classic. it's been a Traditional favorite
Of luthiers for centuries and is probably still the single most popular wood used today and its easy to understand why. it looks really good it's extremely durable and the sound it produces makes it very desirable as a tonewood. These particular boards have some really nice figuring. Mix of light wood with darker shades
Some interesting grain patterns . These particular boards also inlayed front facing position markers on the playing surface.
These are already pre slotted for you accurately! 22 fret positions 24 " scale Slotted with the most accurate templates and highest quality Fret slotting blade available to ensure if you use these boards your instrument will play in tune with accurate intonation. Slots are .023 to accept standard guitar fretwire tangs. These boards are approximately 1-1/2" wide and 3/8" thick and should fit most cigarbox guitar necks or just buy a board 1-1/2" wide which should be readily available almost anywhere. ,These boards have been surfaced to 220 grit on the fretboard playing face . The bottom or glue up side is surfaced to 80 grit because that is optimal for a strong glue up to your neck blank you do not want adjoining glue surfaces to be shiny and smooth the glue adheres better to a slight scuffed surface.
.if you wish too you could give it a light final sanding to the playing surface with a extra fine grit 400 or up to achieve butter smooth action and to make the natural luster in the wood pop and highlight the natural beauty of the wood further but it isn't necessary.
it is also perfectly fine to apply finish to maple fretboards so if you want too you could apply a coat of lacquer, poly or similar clear finish but if you do i would recommend just a light thin coat you don't want a thick finish on
Any fretboard. You could also use any oil finish of your choice such as danish oil ,tung oil ,linseed etc.
if you just use them as is you should atleast use a fretboard conditioner on them once or twice a year .i like lemon oil but any good fretboard conditioner is fine . Fretboard conditioner is very inexpensive it only takes a minute to apply and a small bottle will last you several years . it will help ensure you get a lifetime of use from your fretboard.
This is a Great deal on some quality boards that can take your next build to another level .much better looking and sounding than cheap oak or poplar fretboards most builders use and aren't really suitable for instrument building. . Be aware every piece of wood has it's own unique figuring and grain pattern. No 2 pieces are identical . The board pictured is typical of the wood species listed but may not be the exact board you will recieve . This is very good quality tonewood .
The listing price is per board .
as any professional instrument builder will tell you if you want to build a quality instrument that looks good plays well and sounds great you have to begin with quality tonewood.
